Baseball

IMG_0049.JPG

Our baseball program is at the heart of Playmakers, providing adaptive play for children, teens, and adults with disabilities. Using specially adapted equipment such as low-profile bases, soft compression balls, and foam or plastic bats, we create a safe and accessible environment where everyone can enjoy the game.

Our program is designed to foster an enjoyable experience where players can develop skills, build friendships, and experience the thrill of baseball. Parents are encouraged to cheer on all players and share in the joy of each game.

Divisions

To ensure an age-appropriate and engaging experience, participants are grouped into divisions:

  • Minors: Ages 4–8

  • Majors: Ages 9–12

  • Pros: Ages 13–18

  • Adults: Ages 19 and up

Each team is limited to 12 players, with divisions based on registration numbers. Players may be placed in a different age group for the best fit based on skill level and engagement needs. We’re also exploring a competitive division for advanced players.

Adaptive Equipment

Adaptive Equipment

Our program uses specially chosen equipment for safe, accessible play:

  • Low-profile bases with beveled edges reduce tripping hazards.

  • Low compression balls collapse on contact, slowing the speed to make them easier and safer to catch.

  • Adaptive bats (foam, plastic, or aluminum) offer options to match skill and comfort levels.

  • Hitting tees are available for all players to use as needed.

Players are welcome to bring their own equipment. Closed-toe athletic shoes are required; baseball cleats are optional.

Buddies & Volunteers

Every team includes dedicated coaches, volunteer buddies (often local high school athletes), and community volunteers who:

  • Protect and assist players as needed, allowing maximum independence.

  • Encourage players, keep them engaged, and ensure smooth game flow. Parents or aides are welcome to support their player if additional assistance is needed.
