We are a volunteer led organization that encourages input from our families to guide us in the programs we offer. Through community outreach we will fund and build an adaptive park where these programs will take place.
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
In 1987 President Ronal Reagan designated March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and in 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act became law, prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities in places of employment, state and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications.
According to the World Health Organization, 16% of the world's population lives with a disability. That number is bigger in California according to the CDC (see graphic). Becoming more inclusive will improve the lives of millions of people.
Thank you Long Beach Wilson!
Thanks to Long Beach Wilson High School for inviting us to their first annual "Do Good Fair". We met with more than 250 young adults who learned about Playmakers, what we do, and how to get involved.
Get ready to explore a diverse range of sports and recreational activities at the Adaptive Sports Fair! Our organizations specialize in coaching and adapting some of the most-loved sports and recreational programs for people with disabilities. Bring your friends and family to this event to enjoy activities like baseball, basketball, dance, martial arts, yoga, boccia and more! Your enjoyment is top priority, so please choose the activities that best suit your interests and comfort.
